Google is investing US$15 billion (approx. RM61 billion) in Malaysia between 2027 and 2028 to expand its data center campuses, cloud operations, and clean energy infrastructure. [1, 2, 3]
This major expansion follows Google's initial US$2 billion (RM9.4 billion) investment announced in May 2024 for its first data center and Google Cloud region. [1, 2]
Key Investment Details
- Locations: Expansion of the existing campus at Elmina Business Park (Selangor), alongside brand-new data center campuses planned in Selangor and Port Dickson (Negeri Sembilan). Google also committed US$160 million for shared water infrastructure in Negeri Sembilan. [1, 2, 3]
- Clean Energy & Power: Google plans to add more than 1 gigawatt (GW) of clean energy capacity to Malaysia's national grid, covering 100% of the power its data centers use and direct grid-connection costs. The campuses are engineered to run at a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.12 to 1.14. [1, 2]
